I'm sure his bankai will be amazing. But in all honesty, his shikai is one of my least favorites. It's too... Gokou. I feel like he should be crying out "Power-pole, extend!" everytime he uses it. It's ability is very basic and is easily countered in a fight. When it comes to a close-range fighter he wouldn't have much of a chance against them using his shikai. Unless it has some other unique abilities not shown, he'd either be forced to fight in a sealed state (like against Hitsugaya most of their fight) or go straight to bankai.
